MICROSOFT ACCESS 2000

Prerequisites: None

Course Description: Introduces students to relational database concepts using Microsoft 2000.

Topics Covered:

Week One: Introduction to database concepts, organizing, starting, opening printing, existing database

Week Two: Creating, modifying, and updating an order table, designing databases, guidelines, creating tables, adding records, saving a database, modifying the structure of a table, copying records, using clipboard


Course Purpose/Overview/Goals
: To have the students acquire the skills necessary to create and maintain database tables.

Program Outcomes: To understand the topics covered in the above weekly list. To show the students techniques that will allow further independent study of Access.


Instructor's Educational Philosophy: I as an instructor will do all I can to assist you in learning, but the ultimate responsibility lies with each individual student to do what is needed to acquire knowledge, advance, and achieve one's goals. To benefit most from the concepts and techniques presented in class, the student should practice outside of class until all projects are completed and full understanding of the material is grasped. Please ask questions if you or a classmate does not understand any material discussed in class.

Textbooks: None

Required Materials: Two 3 ½" Floppy Disks (Please acquire immediately)

Student Assignments
: There is one assignment per class worth 15 points.


4 assignments x 15 = 60


The schedule is tentative and subject to change. Total material covered depends on the class's efforts & progress.

Calendar/Schedule
: Assignments due as announced in class.
Exam Project Wednesday, October 31st

Late Work: Unless student makes arrangements with instructor, Twenty-five percent of the score is deducted from each assignment that is turned in after due date/time (late).

Learning Resources: Use Libraries to acquire more information, both school and King County. Computer Lab Assistants are available to answer questions. Also, use the Internet.

Feedback to Student and Course Policies: The SCCC numerical grading system will be implemented. Ten percent of score is deducted from each assignment that is turned in after due date/time.
